Most in the United States probably have not heard of Aadhar, but it is transforming lives of those in India. Aadhar is a government program that is using Big Data to “universally identify” a goal of 600 million Indian residents. It is aiming to become the largest biometric database in the world by 2014 and will not only help millions of poor and hungry people, but in turn will help save billions of dollars for the country’s government.
Using Big Data in methods to collect and study huge amounts of information is not new, but the current speeds in which the data is collected and analyzed is unprecedented. The current technology is set to change lives in not only India, but here in the United States as well.
